Three Fights To Look Out For: UFC Austin

This Saturday live on ESPN is UFC Fight Night from Austin, Texas. The event is headlined by a clash between two top featherweights, Calvin Kattar vs Josh Emmett. But, with such a fun looking card from top to bottom; we’re here to take a look at three fights you should be keeping your eyes on.

Deron Winn vs Phil Hawes

Up first on our list, Deron Winn is making his return after a two year hiatus. He has not fought since December  19, 2020 where he defeated Antonio Arroyo by unanimous decision. Deron is coming in with a 7-2 record, looking to continue his win streak after two losses in his last three.

But, he is walking into a battle with Phil Hawes who is coming off of a knockout loss from last year. Previously before the loss, Phil Hawes was on a seven fight win streak in his MMA career (11-3). Two men walking into a cage, one looking to get back on a win streak and another coming in off of a two year layoff, is definitely one to look out for.

Jeremiah Wells vs Court McGee

Up next, Jeremiah Wells is currently undefeated in UFC at 2-0, both finishes. He is 10-2-1 in his MMA career, but is riding on a 4 fight win streak. He looked very impressive in his first two UFC fights, most recently in February of this year. Now, Wells is looking for a step up in competition when he takes on UFC Veteran, Court McGee.

Court is 21-10 in his career, currently riding a two fight win streak, most recently winning in January via unanimous decision against Ramiz Brahimaj. This is a classic tale of the new talent looking to get through a gate keeping veteran. Can Jeremiah Wells continue his uprising UFC start? Or will Court McGee stop the new blood to continue his winning ways? Keep an eye on this fight.

Julian Marquez vs Gregory Rodrigues

Last, but certainly not least, Julian Marquez has been undefeated in official UFC fights ever since his loss in The Ultimate Fighter 27 Finale. Julian went on to get two wins under the UFC umbrella, both submission finishes against Maki Pitolo & Sam Alvey with the latter being the most recent in April of 2021.

Gregory Rodrigues who is 2-1 in UFC, is most recently coming off of a loss in February of this year. Gregory was 4-0 in 2021 with three of the four wins coming by way of knockout. Now, he is trying to knock off the rust of losing this year and looking to get back on his winning ways. But,  he has a tough task ahead of him with the hungry Julian Marquez who is looking for his third win in a row and to keep his UFC undefeated streak in tact. Keep your eyes peeled for this fight, the chances of a getting a finish here between these two are very high.

These three fights should surely peak your interest in this event, as well as names such as Kevin Holland, Joaquin Buckley, the re-scheduled Joe Lauzon vs Donald Cerrone and of course the firework of a main event between to of the hardest hitting featherweights in Calvin Kattar vs Josh Emmett. Prelims start at 4pm est with the main card starting at 7pm est live on ESPN & ESPN+.
