Original Plan For AEW World Tag Title Ladder Match On Dynamite

Jeff Hardy has been in the news a lot recent for his recent DUI arrest that caused him and his brother Matt to be pulled out of the Triple Threat Ladder Match for the AEW Tag Team Championships this past Wednesday.

Now, Fightful select has an update debunking some rumored original plans and what was/was not supposed to happen with The Hardy’s for that match.

In the days that followed the ladder match on Dynamite, reports emerged that the Hardy Boyz weren’t even planned to actually compete in the match. Bryan Alvarez reported two days following the ladder match that even prior to Jeff Hardy’s DUI arrest, The Hardy Boyz were to be attacked and taken out of the triple threat title ladder match. However, Fightful has learned that isn’t accurate. Prior to the DUI arrest, the Hardy Boyz were still slated for the match on the June 15 AEW Dynamite, but Jeff Hardy’s performance was going to be contingent on him being cleared and able to be in the ring. If he wasn’t cleared and given the go ahead, he would have been written out of the match, but Matt Hardy was to still compete, per AEW sources. As of now, we have no update on plans for Matt Hardy moving forward. Jeff Hardy must receive treatment and maintain sobriety in order to return to AEW.

There’s no word on who Matt Hardy’s partner would’ve been if Jeff was written out, or if he’d have a partner at all. Ultimately, The Young Bucks picked up the win and became the new AEW Tag Team Champions.
