Kurt Angle Recalls Vince McMahon Allowing Him To Use Banned Moves

Kurt Angle is one of the greatest in ring talents of all time, and as such was well trusted by the bossman.

Vince McMahon has had a history of banning certain moves due to safety concerns, in particular the piledriver is one move you won’t see a lot of in WWE.

While speaking on his The Kurt Angle Show podcast, Angle revealed Vince McMahon trusted him to perform the belly-to-belly and German suplex. This was around the time in the early 2000s when WWE stopped using the moves for fear of neck injuries.

“Well, not for me in particular, because Vince McMahon pulled me aside and told me, ‘Listen, I know that 90% of your repertoire is suplexes, and I want you to keep them because I know you’re safe with them. You never land anybody on their head, and I trust you that you will continue to do a good job.’ So he allowed me to continue to do my belly-to-belly suplex and my German suplexes.

The thing is, I was really grateful that I didn’t have to take them out of my repertoire because that’s what I did. That’s my offense. Thank god Vince McMahon continued to let me use it.”

Of course being such a high level amateur wrestler, McMahon would obviously trust Angle to do these moves. Now, the moves are common practice in WWE but they are not always safe as Big E found out earlier this year, suffering a broken neck.
