Athena Says Her Passion For Wrestling Was “Sucked Out” In WWE
Athena did not enjoy her WWE run.
Over the last few months, we’ve heard from several talent regarding the differences between working with AEW and the WWE. Most prominent has been Toni Storm, who has been vocal about how her run with the WWE damaged her mental health. Now, another name who joined AEW from WWE has had her say on the topic.
While speaking to Steve Fall of NBC Sports, Athena talked about how she lost her passion for pro wrestling towards the end of her run in WWE.
“Over the course of like six, seven years with WWE it became work. When I like left it was like I got to sit at home for three months and just kind of figure out what I wanted to do, and I didn’t necessarily know if I wanted to wrestle again it was just like ah okay because I was afraid that I would go like, and it would feel like work and so like on some level yeah I feel like the passion was sucked out.”

Of course, with how Athena’s debut has been handled, she is no doubt happy with her current position in the company. While she never won a main roster championship in the WWE, it seems as if AEW are looking to fast track Athena to a TBS title reign. Time will tell what will happen, but it is good news to hear “The Fallen Goddess” has recaptured her passion.
