Andy Ruiz Jr. In Phenomenal Shape For Luis Ortiz PPV Bout In September
The former unified Heavyweight champion looks like he is ready for a brawl in September.
Andy Ruiz Jr. The man who handed Anthony Joshua their first pro loss to win the unified Heavyweight championships has a scheduled bout against Luis Ortiz and looks to be in phenomenal shape in the build-up to it.
Ruiz lost to Joshua in their rematch via unanimous decision, in his post-fight interview, Ruiz admitted he hadn’t trained diligently for the fight, stating, “I should have taken this fight more seriously. Three months of partying and celebrating affected me.”
Following the Joshua loss, Ruiz faced former WBC title challenger Chris Arreola on on May 1, 2021. This was Ruiz first fight with new trainer Eddy Reynoso in their corner. Ruiz recovered from a second round knockdown to win via unanimous decision with scores of 118–109, 118–109, 117–110.
Ortiz’s only losses have come against former Heavyweight king Deontay Wilder in 2018 and 2019, Ortiz is on a 2-fight winning streak with knockout wins over Alexander Flores and Charles Martin.
