Kevin Owens Surprises Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Bruce Boudreau at The NHL Draft

The 2022 NHL Draft, taking place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, is underway and top prospects such as new Seattle Krakken Shane Wright, new Devils’ defenseman Simon Nemic and the first overall pick to the hometown Montreal Canadiens Juraj Slafkovsky went early in the first round on Thursday night. But the Canadiens aren’t the only people who call Quebec home, as former Universal Champion Kevin Owens grew up just approximately a half-hour from Montreal.

Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau, who’s just one win shy of 600 for his career across stints with the Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild and the Canucks, was on the panel as NHL presented Rounds 2-7 on Friday afternoon. While chatting with NHL Network’s Senior Reporter EJ Hradek and Jackie Redmond, Bruce Boudreau was in for a surprise.

Redmond, who works for WWE as the co-host of Raw Talk and Talking Smack on Peacock and the WWE Network in addition to her role with NHL Network, introduced one of her WWE co-workers to Boudreau, who just happened to be in the building is Bruce Boudreau’s favorite professional wrestler.

Boudreau noted that Owens is his favorite and ‘the best talking they have’ as the head coach was in awe of the Prizefighter. He also campaigned for Kevin Owens to be on Summerslam on July 30th. He also made a pitch to be Kevin Owens manager, citing that he wants to be the next Lou Albano. Albano, of course, was a Hall of Fame manager in the WWF for the better part of 25 years.

Boudreau is a staunch fan of professional wrestling, even using it as part of his coaching style with the Canucks, including a championship in the locker room for the game’s top star. In a February press conference, Boudreau told ESPN that Kevin Owens is his second favorite wrestler of all-time, only behind Canadian icon Bret Hart. The two further discussed how wrestling can correlate to hockey and Owens recent match with Steve Austin at WrestleMania in Dallas.

Afterward, the two posed for a photo-op that has since been shared by the Canucks social media team.

Owens has been out with a minor injury in recent weeks. Bodyslam will keep you as up-to-date as possible on his condition.
