Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Mahkchaev for Vacant UFC Lightweight Championship set for UFC 280
Da Bronx will have the opportunity to get back the championship he never lost.
During the UFC on Long Island broadcast, they announced Charles Oliveira will get his chance to win the Lightweight championship back in a potential 5-round war vs. Islam Mahkchaev.
Oliveira was stripped of the title due to missing weight by half a pound when he fought Justin Gaethje and defeated in the 1st round. In his last 11 fights, Oliveira has been undefeated, finishing 10 of his last 11 opponents including Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier and recently Gaethje.
At 22-1, Makhachev has earned a reputation as one of the toughest guys in the entire UFC as he carries the legacy started by friend and coach Khabib Nurmagomedov. His last couple of wins have been over Thiago Moises, Dan Hooker and recently Bobby Green, all 3 fights ended with a stoppage.
Earlier today Oliveira tweeted a pen emoji, many speculated that this meant he had a fight ready and that was the answer for us during the show today.
The two have had a war of words on social media and with the fight officially being booked, it’ll now be the time to see who truly is the better fighter and rightful champion of the Lightweight division.
