Women continue to make history.
Today at Stardom’s 2022 Strategy Meeting, they announced that New Japan Pro Wrestling and Stardom will collaborate on the new IWGP Women’s Championship. The title is being created ti be defended in Japan and in the United States on New Japan Pro Wrestling Strong shows and it is possible that it could be defended on big Stardom shows. The inaugural IWGP Women’s Champion will be crowned at the NJPW x Stardom joint show on November 20th at the Ariake Arena. This championship will be added alongside Stardom’s World of Stardom Championship and the Wonder of Stardom Championship. This adds to the rich history of the IWGP Championship for the male talent in NJPW.
NJPW does not have a women’s division, but progress is being made in Japan with the women of stardom preforming under the NJPW banner. So far, it’s unclear if there will be a tournament to crown the inaugural champion, but we’ll keep you updated.
