Dustin Poirier vs. Michael Chandler Being Finalized for UFC 281 at MSG
The rivalry that has been boiling for quite some time is close to being finalized.
Dustin Poirier tweeted earlier today “fight news coming soon!!” and an hour later on the MMA Hour Ariel Helwani would break the news that the UFC is finalizing a deal to have Poirier fight Michael Chandler at UFC 281 in New York at Madison Square Garden.
Poirier and Chandler have been at it on social media for quite some time, they even had a confrontation at UFC 276 when both men were watching the event from the crowd.
Chandler had let it be known that he was not interested in a fight vs. Poirier and that he was looking to fight for the championship following his winning knockout vs. Tony Ferguson earlier this year. However it looks like the plan has changed after the UFC booked Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Kahkchaev for the vacant Lightweight championship at UFC 280.
No word yet on if this will be the co-main event or headliner for the PPV. The UFC is planing a big show and plenty of notable names are mentioned for this show.
We will keep you updated on any fights that do get announced for this event.
