CM Punk returned on AEW Dynamite this week, clearing house after the main event match between Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley.
Fightful Select have now provided more details on the AEW World Champions surprising returns just two months removed from his broken foot surgery. In particular, this applied to how AEW attempted to keep Punk’s return a secret.
Though it was hopeful from the start, Fightful had noted early on that the internal hope from those we heard from is that CM Punk would be back and ready to go for the AEW All Out show. We’re told there was a restricted area backstage at Dynamite Quake by the Lake, which now most assume was related to CM Punk’s return. The news was kept away from staff and much of the roster, including some of the people who were actively involved in the main event gang warz segment. Punk personally played the news close to the vest as well.
