Kairi Hojo Pulled From STARDOM Event Due To COVID-19
World Wrestling STARDOM is presenting STARDOM x STARDOM 2022 on Sunday, August 21st emanating from Dolphin’s Arena in Nagoya. The show was originally supposed to be headlined by former WWE star Kairi Hojo. As Hojo looks to continue her return run in STARDOM, Hojo was prepared to challenge for Saya Kamitani’s Wonder of Stardom Championship this week. Hojo held the championship for just a day shy of the one year threshold after she defeated Santana Garrett for the championship in May of 2016.
If Kairi is to recapture the championship in the imminent future, it’ll unfortunately have to wait, however. STARDOM announced late Thursday night that Hojo is not cleared to compete, citing “poor physical condition.”
Hojo elaborated on her condition via Twitter. Kairi explained that she has been tested for the new COVID-19 variant and received a positive result.
Hojo returned to STARDOM in February following a five-year stint in WWE. Hojo, now competing simply under the name KAIRI, is also a former World of Stardom Champion and three-time Goddess of Stardom Champion. Meanwhile, Kamitani has been Wonder of Stardom Champion for 233 days and counting, winning the championship from Tam Nakano in the final few days of 2021. A replacement for Sane on the show has yet to be determined.
Regardless, this weekend’s STARDOM festivities promises to be a happening. World of Stardom Champion Syuri will defend against the inaugural champion Nanae Takahashi. Takahashi won the championship when she defeated Yoko Bito at the 2011 edition of STARDOM x STARDOM.
Bodyslam will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated as more information becomes available. Bodyslam sends our best to Kairi Hojo and wish for a speedy recovery.
