Dexter Lumis: Stalking For Gold
Recently, Dexter Lumis made his way back to WWE by terrorizing Monday Night RAW as he continuously breaks into the building before being arrested and taken out. Before being released originally, Dexter was in NXT where he was a contender for the North American Championship but didn’t ever win the title. Dexter, previously as Samuel Shaw, was in IMPACT Wrestling where he also didn’t win a championship. Lumis is on a quest for gold. But, which gold? And when? Well, I’m here to seek out how Dexter could get his way to having a title around his waist for the first time, a fantasy booking if you will. So, let’s get into it.
To set the tone, we’ll start from the present day, which is days off of Dexter once again showing up on RAW and kidnapping Miz from the crowd, dragging him into the backstage area to never be seen again that night. Dexter would then show up on NXT a day later to confront his former lover, Indi Hartwell, which he kissed and professed his still-going love for her before being arrested and taken away from NXT, only to leave Indi a note saying “Goodbye Indi (For Now…) I Love You Forever.” The words I want to focus on at the moment is “for now,” because that’s exactly where this fantasy booking starts.
Next week on Monday Night Raw, Maryse and Ciampa will enter the ring to cut a promo where Maryse frantically demands that Dexter Lumis return’s Miz from whatever deep, dark closet he has him in. After Ciampa and Maryse both demand Dexter to bring Miz back, Miz gets thrown out from the entrance curtain in the same exact gear he was in when he was taken. Soon after, a slow walking Dexter Lumis would walk out, following a scrambling, crawling, stumbling Miz down the entrance ramp. As Miz gets in the ring to hide behind Maryse, Dexter steps face to face with Ciampa. But of course, he doesn’t talk. So, he just points to Maryse, signally he wants her. As Dexter comes face to face with Maryse, Ciampa attacks him from behind. Miz and Ciampa start beating down Dexter, with only one person to come out for the save, and that’s Indi Hartwell. Indi runs down the ramp wielding a steel chair to back off Ciampa and Miz, only to come face to face with Maryse herself. And there we have it, Dexter Lumis’ first main roster match. Clash At The Castle, Miz and Maryse vs. Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell.
I won’t bore you with details of the match, but, I presume Dexter and Indi get the win over Miz and Maryse. The following RAW after Clash At The Castle, Ciampa steps up and tells a still freaked out Miz and Maryse to stay backstage, he’s got this. Ciampa challenges Dexter Lumis to a one on one match, which happens. Indi is in Dexter’s corner, of course, and Lumis gets the win over Ciampa in singles action. This ends the feud between Dexter, Miz, Maryse and Ciampa. Who’s next? AJ Styles. When Lumis originally kidnapped Miz, it was during a tag team match where a decoy was used to go after AJ Styles as a distraction so Lumis could take Miz. But, that wasn’t a distraction at all. It was a warning.
The following week on RAW, AJ Styles is gearing up for singles competition for the night. The camera shows him getting ready backstage, where in the camera shot, you see Dexter creepishly looming in the background. Later on that night, AJ makes his way to the ring for his match. As he walks to the end of the ramp, he’s blindsided by Dexter Lumis who lays him out from a sneak attack before dragging AJ backstage. The following week on RAW, AJ is out in the ring for a promo where he explains that he got away from Lumis with the help of security, now he wants Dexter one on one, no sneak attacks, just a fair fight. Now of course in classic wrestling fashion, Lumis doesn’t answer the call. Week after week, AJ Styles continues to call out Lumis to no prevail and the only time we see Dexter Lumis is when he’s in the shadows stalking AJ backstage. By this time, we’re entering the month of October, which brings us close to Extreme Rules time. Two weeks before the Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View, AJ Styles cuts a frantic backstage promo explaining how he’s sick and tired of having to constantly look over his shoulder and feeling like someone is watching him. He tells Dexter to stop stalking him and meet him face to face in the ring, but before he could walk away, Dexter nails Styles in the back with a steel chair before being swarmed by security yet again. The next week, also known at this point as the go-home show to Extreme Rules, AJ Styles makes his way out to the ring for a promo. AJ explains that this is Dexter’s very last chance to answer his challenge. Styles challenges Dexter Lumis to an Extreme Rules match at the self titled Pay-Per-View on October, 8th. Dexter Lumis then shows up in the crowd behind the barricade and simply just gives AJ Styles a thumbs up. The match is on.
On Saturday, October 8th, Dexter Lumis and AJ Styles battled on the Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View in a Extreme Rules match. Both men obviously beat the hell out of each other, using any and all weapons they can get their hands on. But, in the end, Dexter Lumis gets the win over AJ Styles via strangling AJ until he was unconscious.
The following Monday on RAW, Indi Hartwell is walking backstage when she is approached by her ‘brother’ from The Way, Theory. Then, Theory tells Indi that they know what they’ve been through in the past and things are a bit different now. But, he still doesn’t trust Dexter Lumis and after seeing what he did to AJ Styles, Theory warns Indi Hartwell that Lumis is a dangerous man and she should stay away from him. Little did he know, Dexter was listening from the shadows and now, Theory is next. The following week on RAW, Theory is in singles action against Finn Balor. During the match, Lumis pops up from behind the barricade and distracts Theory, causing him to lose against Finn Balor. Then, the next week, which would be Monday, October 24th, Theory is once again backstage with Indi where he is scolding her, asking if she saw Lumis distract him the week prior, causing him to lose. Theory demands Indi stops seeing Dexter, or else he’s “going to tell dad” aka Johnny Gargano. Indi has had enough and she slaps Theory in the face before he angrily storms off. Once again, Dexter is stalking from the shadows but gets a slight grin on his face when he see’s the slap. The next week would land us on the October 31st, Halloween edition of Monday Night RAW, which is also the go-home show to Crown Jewel. On this episode, Theory is out to the ring and challenges Lumis to a match at Crown Jewel, but, he has a stipulation, if Theory beats Lumis, he must stop seeing Indi Hartwell forever. Suddenly, Lumis pops up from behind the barricade once more, this time, with a pumpkin on his head (come on, have some fun, it’s Halloween!) and gives his signature thumbs up. It’s on. Dexter Lumis vs. Theory at WWE’s Crown Jewel event on November 5th, 2022. If Theory wins, In-Dex is over forever!
Now, of course at Crown Jewel, Dexter Lumis picks up the win over Theory and In-Dex lives on! Indi and Dexter can live happily ever after. But, that’s not the story here. Lumis still has gold on his mind. From November 5th, we do not see Dexter Lumis on TV for two weeks. After winning the match against Theory, Lumis and Indi went on a honeymoon of sorts. This gives fans two weeks to clear Dexter Lumis from their minds as we gear up for the November 26th Survivor Series Pay-Per-View. Survivor Series is always fun. Brand vs. Brand, Champion vs. Champion and bragging rights at the helm. At this years Survivor Series, we have a colossal battle between the United States Champion, Bobby Lashley and the Intercontinental Champion, Gunther. This is a clash fans would be foaming out the mouth to see, and it goes down on that faithful November night with brand bragging rights on the line.
During the Gunther vs. Bobby Lashley match at Survivor Series, both men are giving it their all, it’s anyones match to win. Lashley has Gunther down and he’s in the corner setting up for a spear. Suddenly, a hand pops up from under the ring apron and grabs Lashley’s foot, which distracts him and causes Gunther to take control and pick up the win. A obviously furious Lashley shows up to the November 28th RAW and demands to know who the hell pulled his foot at Survivor Series. No one shows their face. Bobby Lashley continues to search for who the hell screwed him over at Survivor Series. Then, on the December 12th edition of RAW, Bobby Lashley says he’s reviewed the footage and it’s obvious that the gloved hand is only one man, and that’s Dexter Lumis. Lashley says he’s not playing these stupid games, he wants Lumis right now. Suddenly, Dexter Lumis shows up behind him in the ring. Bobby turns around and quickly tries to attack him but Lumis scurries out of the ring and over the barricade, leaving the arena and leaving Bobby Lashley frustrated at ringside. On the December 19th episode of RAW, Bobby Lashley says he knows what Dexter wants and it’s the United States Championship. Suddenly, a video of Dexter drawing shows up on the screen, a nod to how he would draw on NXT. He reveals the drawing to be a cartoon of himself holding the United States Championship. So, Lashley obliges. Bobby Lashley accepts Lumis’ challenge for the United States Title for WWE’s Day One Pay-Per-View on January 1st. This was Dexter Lumis’ plan all along. Miz and Ciampa battled AJ Styles and Bobby Lashley when Lumis originally kidnapped Miz. Why? Because Lumis was taking out Lashley’s potential challengers one by one. Miz, then Ciampa, then AJ Styles, then, the idiot Theory put his nose where it didn’t belong and Dexter had to make a quick detour, but now, it’s finally here. Two weeks later, Bobby Lashley vs. Dexter Lumis at WWE Day One for the United States Championship. In the end, Dexter defeats Lashley at the Day One show and becomes the new United States Champion. Dexter Lumis finally holds gold.
Obviously, as stated, this was all fantasy booking of how we could potentially get Dexter Lumis from where he is now, to his first championship. Do you agree with my fantasy booking? Would you do something different? Let me know! Wether you agree or not, it’ll be interesting to see in real time how and if WWE puts a championship around the waist of Dexter Lumis. As a fan, I hope they do. Wether it’s the United States Championship or maybe even the WWE Championship, here’s to hoping Dexter Lumis is a champion in the foreseeable future.
