Official: Dustin Poirier vs. Michael Chandler set for UFC 281
UFC 281 is going to be a stacked event with this addition to the big apple card.
The “Diamond” Dustin Poirier will fight “Iron” Michael Chandler at UFC 281 in New York at Madison Square Garden.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN was the first to report and confirm this news.
In addition to the fight being added, UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell announced it would be a three round bout and Chandler had signed a new multi-fight deal with the UFC.
The official placement of Chandler vs. Poirier on the fight card is not yet known; the ESPN+ pay-per-view card is headlined by a middleweight title fight between champ Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira
The scheduled co-headliner fight is a strawweight title fight between champ Carla Esparza and Zhang Weili.
The former Bellator champ’s stock went through the roof with his previous performance, a 2nd-round front-kick knockout of ex-interim champ Tony Ferguson at UFC 274.
Poirier is eight months removed from a second shot for the UFC lightweight title, it ended in a third-round submission loss to Charles Oliveira.
The former interim lightweight champ contemplated a move to the welterweight division before agreeing to face Chandler.
