The AEW suspensions are set to prevent some stars from appearing in other promotions.
At AEW All Out, there was a major scuffle backstage involving CM Punk and The Elite. The fight was broken up by many, and all involved were initially suspended. However, those involved in breaking the fight up have had their suspensions lifted.
Dave Meltzer noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the suspensions also include outside bookings in other promotions.
Talent while on suspension is not allowed to work anywhere, since as EVP’s all of their outside bookings run through Khan and the office. Punk is a moot point due to the injury but there are promoters interested in at least one if not all of them for major shows and were told they aren’t available until the suspensions are over.

Time will tell when the rest of the suspensions will be lifted but for now – those suspended will have to deal with not wrestling at all in the meantime.
