MJF could be AEW World Champion soon enough.
MJF won the Casino Ladder Match at AEW All Out, securing the poker chip that earns him a AEW Title shot. In the past few weeks, many fans wondered if the poker chip could be used like a money in the bank briefcase or if the match must have a specific time and place. Well, Tony Khan recently appeared on Barstool’s Rasslin podcast where he was asked about this, to which he replied.
I think any time, any sanctioned event we can certainly make it happen. In this day and age, it’s a world that’s uh, with live television and pay-per-view events, and all [of these other] opportunities, it’s exciting to have a contender out there looming and to have this big championship match tonight on Dynamite. Certainly, it’s that much more interesting to have two of the best wrestlers in the world, Bryan Danielson versus Jon Moxley one on one for the world championship, and to have a great wrestler like MJF looming in the background as a top contender with the right to challenge for the title any time. It’s a very interesting championship picture right now in AEW.”

It seems the contract must be sanctioned, but not at any specific time. If MJF manages to get Tony to sanction it, maybe it’ll be at the next pay-per-view. Maybe it’ll even be tonight, following Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley’s championship battle. You’ll have to tune into AEW Dynamite Grand Slam tonight at 8/7c on TBS to find out!
