Shawn Michaels Discusses The Origins Of The DX Crotch Chop

Shawn Michaels reveals the thought process that went into creating the DX cross chop.

In the Attitude Era, one of the coolest things in pro wrestling was DX. The faction had an attitude and spat in the face of authority, leaving many fans dying for more every week. They even had several obscene references to fall back on with gestures like the crotch chop becoming common for every member of the faction.

In an interview with Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, Michaels reflected on the origin of the taunt and credited Sean Waltman (X-Pac) as the first person he saw doing it.

“The first place I remember seeing it was Sean Waltman, who was then known as 1-2-3 Kid and later X-Pac, doing it over in the UK. Then all of a sudden, we were doing it as a group, to each other, kind of thinking it was funny. It was sort of a witty way and tell somebody where they could go or they didn’t like your answer to something — a bunch of buddies ribbing each other,”

DX are set to reunite for their 25th anniversary of the faction next month on an episode of Monday Night RAW.
