It looks like the rumors are true.
Buddy Matthews and Malakai Black both bowed out of AEW recently, telling fans that they will see them again soon. The pair have both been signed to long term contracts with AEW, with Black reportedly being granted his conditional release from the company. Matthews was wrote off AEW TV on last Friday’s AEW Grand Slam edition of Rampage. He would then cut a promo at an indie event, confirming that he would be taking time off but would be back.
Now, Dave Meltzer reports on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that both stars intend to return to WWE.
“He’s like Malakai Black, they both wanted to leave and they want to go to WWE. They’re both under long-term contract and we’ll have to see how this plays out.”

Time will tell where and when Matthews and Black will return to the pro wrestling industry but for now they are both on sabbatical.
