Matt Hardy Reveals The One Change He Would Make To The Steel Cage Match Stipulation
Steel Cage matches have changed over the years with many different stipulations depending on the promotion.
In WWE, the steel cage match has changed dramatically from its inception, with the company notably including a rule where you can walk out the cage door or escape the cage with both feet hitting the floor to win the match. This rule has lead to many highly dramatic finishes to the match but the stipulation has its detractors.
Matt answered fan questions on the latest episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, and when asked what aspect of Steel Cage Matches he’d change, he said he would take away the ability to win the match by exiting through the cage door.
“I’m okay with escaping the cage, but the one thing I would definitely remove is that you can go through the door. I’ve hated that rule since day one,” said Matt. “It’s super anticlimactic. [The fact that] you can walk out the door and step on the floor is boring. If you’re going to do it and say you can escape the cage and win, then you have to go over the top of the cage. So that way, it adds some excitement to the match.”
