Vince McMahon Had No Concrete Plans In Place To Make Cody Rhodes A World Champion In WWE
Vince McMahon wasn’t as high on the returning Cody Rhodes that many would assume.
Cody made his grand return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 earlier this year and when he returned he made it known he was after a world title in WWE. However, his eventful summer was cut short as prior to Hell In A Cell in June, Cody tore his pectoral muscle completely off the bone, requiring surgery that will keep him on the shelf till early 2023.
Fightful Select now report that Vince McMahon did not have any solid plans to make Cody WWE or Universal Champion prior to his retirement.
Fightful Select spoke to numerous sources in WWE who said that as the time that Cody Rhodes sustained his injury, Vince McMahon had not solidified plans to make Cody Rhodes the WWE or Universal Champion. Many assumed it was happening, but we’ve heard that there were firm plans for the title change in place.
Instead, we were told that Vince McMahon was “all on board” for the Roman Reigns double title reign, and there weren’t ideas floated from Vince that would have indicated he was ready to move on from that this summer.

As mentioned previously, Cody is not expected back till early 2023 at the earliest. Vince however, would go on to retire a month after Cody’s injury. Time will tell what creative direction Cody will have once he returns to the promotion.
