Looking Back At The Shield VS. The Authority
Welcome back to my next trip down memory lane depicting The Shield’s greatest moments, leading up to their ten-year anniversary at Survivor Series. Last week I went back to 2013 Extreme Rules where the hounds of justice were draped in gold. This week I will be going back to talk about The Shield turning babyface for the first time in their illustrious time as a faction.
Let’s back up a few months, where Ambrose, Reigns, and Rollins were offered a chance in the elimination chamber match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. They were interrupted by The Wyatt Family and were hellbent on revenge. The dominant factions squared off in a massive war, and in defiance of the leader of The Authority Triple H. HHH wanted both teams to work together to take down the antihero Daniel Bryan on his quest for the heavyweight championship.
Defying the COO made the hounds of justice enemies of The Authority which was not a good place to be. Ever since their debut in WWE, Ambrose, Reigns, and Rollins put hits on certain legends, and other personnel under orders of HHH. The juggernauts got tired of doing business for their corrupt boss and took matters into their own hands. On any given Monday Night Raw The Shield would deliver a three-on-one beatdown without question, but not on the March 17th edition of the flagship show.
While the Director of Operations Kane were demanding The Shield to take our Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, they decided enough was enough and attacked the former world champion. The crowd erupted as Ambrose, Reigns, and Rollins lifted Kane up for their signature Triple-Powerbomb. For the first time, The Shield were full-fledged babyfaces in defiance of The Authority and their corrupt ways.
Ambrose, Reigns, and Rollins would go on defeat Kane & The New Age Outlaws at WrestleMania 30 before they would face their toughest challenges yet but were not there yet.
