Tony Khan Reveals CM Punk And FTR Were Originally Supposed To Have Full Run As A Trio Over The Summer In AEW

Tony Khan reveals that there were plans for CM Punk and FTR to wrestle as a trio before CM Punk hurt his foot.

Back at AEW Double Or Nothing, CM Punk won his first AEW World Championship after defeating Hangman Adam Page. Later that same week, CM Punk would wrestle a trios match with FTR against Max Caster and The Gunns. During this match, Punk would injure his foot, leaving him out of action for most of the summer period.

While speaking to Fightful’s Grapsody podcast, Tony Khan would reveal that Punk and FTR were set for a trios run over the summer but plans would have to be changed following Punk’s injury.

CM Punk and FTR were supposed to be a trio this summer.

We will have to wait and see if we will get the chance to see the trio as a team in AEW once again but for now, Punk’s future in the company remains uncertain. You can see the full interview with Tony Khan in the video above from noon EST on Monday afternoon.
