Tony Khan Says AEW Isn’t Going To Die Like WCW

Tony Khan makes sure to remind fans that he isn’t going anywhere and neither is All Elite Wrestling.

Since AEW began airing on TBS and TNT, they have drawn comparisons to WCW. At WCW’s peak, they were the most successful wrestling promotion in the world. At least, in the ratings at one time. WCW would eventually fall to the might of the WWE, with Vince McMahon purchasing the company in the early 2000s.

Tony joined Fightful’s Grapsody podcast earlier this week and discussed an array of topics, including comparisons between AEW and WCW. He would also not commit to a finger poke of doom spot in the future.

Tony Khan will not commit to NOT doing a Fingerpoke of Doom on January 4. This is largely a joke, don’t get hurt over it. He says that AEW and WCW get a lot of comparisons because they both aired on TBS/TNT and have guys like Sting, Schiovane and others who have worked for both companies. He said that they’re way different companies, and AEW going away like WCW isn’t a concern because they’re not owned by a media property. He’s not going anywhere.

Fightful Select Notes on Tony Khan Interview

While this should put to bed the comparisons, it is unlikely that will be the case as a subsection of fans continue to say AEW is doomed to repeat the same mistakes as WCW. For now, Tony Khan is standing firm on the fact he is not going anywhere. Make sure to check out the full interview at noon EST at the above link.
