Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch Seemingly Off The Table For WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes Previously Pitched Opponent Revealed
WrestleMania has been changed up.
When Vince McMahon was still in charge, it seemed as if he had a plan for WrestleMania 39 this year. But, with the regime change in the company, it seems like plans have changed, pal. Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has reported some more details on the matter, including a Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch match that is now off the table, as well as a pitch during Vince’s era of seeing Cody Rhodes take on John Cena.
Huge Mania Pitch before the regime change, more details on Mania matches. One of the big planned WrestleMania matches years in the making is no longer scheduled to happen at WrestleMania, and we’ve learned some more details.
Recently, Wrestling Observer reported that Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch was no longer in the plans for the biggest wrestling show of the year. Over the weekend, Fightful Select was able to confirm that. While we haven’t been able to confirm that Rousey vs. Rhea Ripley is the plan. One top talent said that they still expected Ronda Rousey to have a big match at WrestleMania,
Talent that we’d spoken to did confirm that most involved thought that the original WrestleMania 35 match should have been a one on one match, as Steve Muehlhausen had noted on Twitter. A source familiar with the situation said that Becky Lynch did not seem bothered by the notion that the match was no longer happening, but there wasn’t an update on what her match at the show would be.
It goes without saying, but we’re told that anything that Vince McMahon had in mind for next year before his departure isn’t set for the show any longer. Ahead of Vince leaving, it was presumed that Cody Rhodes would end up competing for the WWE Championship at the show, however sources in creative told Fightful that while that was assumed, it wasn’t outright told to them.
WWE does want Logan Paul and The Rock for the show, but we’ve gained no confirmation on whether or not either will appear. John Cena’s status was also unclear to us, and internal conversation shifted from Austin Theory to Logan Paul recently, but we can confirm that other top talent was pushing to work with him as far back as July for WrestleMania. There had actually been pitches within the company at that point for Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena, but we haven’t heard that discussed since the regime change.
