Tony Khan Comments On Sting’s Impending Retirement

It seems that the expiration of Sting’s AEW contract might also mark his farewell to in-ring competition. Sting recently stated that when his three-year contract ends, so will his time behind the black and white face paint. His contract is set to expire at an undisclosed time in 2023.

While Tony Khan is not quite ready to disclose the time when Sting throws in the towel, he does want AEW fans to know that seeing The Icon in action is truly a delight .During a recent appearance on the In The Kliq podcast, Khan told Baby Huey that even though Sting may be considering retirement, his love for wrestling is at an all-time high.

“I talk to Sting a lot. He is somebody who has been such a huge boost to AEW since he arrived. Sting debuted a little over two years ago at the first Winter is Coming event in AEW. I catch up with him pretty frequently on a regular basis. I have to say, Sting’s motivation for pro wrestling is as high as it’s ever been. He loves what he’s doing. I do think he’s starting to think about what retirement will look like, but he’s also not slowing down at all in the present. So, I’m not ready to say exactly when Sting is going to hang it up, but I do know every time we get to see Sting go out there in AEW, it’s very special.”

On January 23, 2023, Sting will take the stage at the Great Muta Final “Bye-Bye” event presented by Pro Wrestling Noah in the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan, where he and Darby Allin will team up with the Great Muta in his last bout before retiring.
