Austin Theory Believes The Money In The Bank Briefcase Was An Anchor For Him

Austin Theory is happy that he is no longer Mr Money In The Bank.

Austin Theory managed to prevail at last year’s Money In The Bank. After a string of matches where he was booked to lose, nobody saw him as a worthy opponent against reigning Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Things went south for Theory after his attempt to cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase for the US Championship failed.

Austin Theory recently appeared on SiriuxXM’s “Busted Open Radio,” where he looked back on being “Mr. Money in the Bank” during Reigns’ incredible run as the Undisputed WWE Champion. Theory believed he had to be more established if he were to measure up to the Tribal Chief.

“I think the briefcase is where it got a lot of controversy. Basically, it just kind of was getting to the point if you were looking at it from like a widescale of ‘where’s this going,’ you look at Roman Reigns, he’s pretty much immortal right now. So, I think, for me, in a sense of, I need to be way more built up to look even possible to beat Roman Reigns. The briefcase was just kind of an anchor on me.”

Though Austin Theory’s attempt at cashing in his briefcase resulted in a failure, he went on to win the US championship twice. Theory believes that there wasn’t really much thought put into handing him the briefcase, though everything worked out in the end for the young WWE superstar. The US Champion claimed it had been a pleasure to step into the ring with veterans like Dolph Ziggler to further his development.
