During the December 30th episode of Friday Night Smackdown, a surprising twist took place when Ronda Rousey lost her Smackdown Women’s Championship title to Charlotte Flair. The unexpected outcome of the match sparked controversy and criticism, as it marked a highly contentious return to the ring for “The Queen”.
Rhea Ripley won the Women’s Royal Rumble match and earned the right to challenge for a main event title of her choosing. She would end up choosing Charlotte Flair as her WrestleMania 39 opponent.
While speaking with The Daytona Beach News-Journal at NASCAR’s Daytona 500 on Sunday, Charlotte Flair was asked about possibly unifying the titles. Flair made it clear she has no intention of unifying the titles.
I don’t recommend a unification program because I feel that would mean less opportunities for the women. It was cool for one of the girls to have both titles at one time, but it takes a lot of spots away.”

The upcoming WrestleMania match between Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair is historic, as it is the first-ever one-on-one rematch between female wrestlers in the event’s history. In 2020, Charlotte emerged victorious at the Royal Rumble and later defeated Ripley at WrestleMania 36, clinching the NXT Championship. It remains to be seen whether Ripley will be able to avenge her earlier loss to Flair from three years ago.
