Throughout his illustrious career, Mick Foley has been responsible for creating numerous iconic moments in WWE history. From his death-defying plunge off the top of the Hell in a Cell structure at the hands of The Undertaker to his introduction of the unforgettable sock puppet to Mr. McMahon during his hospital stay, Foley has always given his all.
Foley actually allowed his WWE contract to expire in September 2008 before debuting for TNA just a few days later. During his time in TNA, he worked with top stars such as Kurt Angle, Sting, Ric Flair and many more.
While speaking on the Foley is Pod podcast, Mick Foley talked about the initial plans for his character in TNA Wrestling. According to Foley, the original storyline was supposed to involve him arriving on the scene and announcing that he had purchased the X Division.
“My original storyline was supposed to be that I’d show up, I’d say, ‘I’m Mick Foley and I’ve just purchased the X Division. When Scott [Fishman] gave me that, I was like, “Oh, man, I’m in.’ I really wanted to do that.”
It wasn’t really whether or not I was going to get to work with Sting. But definitely having him around was really a plus.”

Despite the disappointment of not being able to pursue this storyline, Foley admitted that it was what initially piqued his interest in working for TNA Wrestling. He was drawn to the idea of having a new character arc and exploring a different aspect of his persona as a wrestling personality.
While the prospect of working with Sting was not the deciding factor in his decision to join TNA, Foley acknowledged that having the veteran wrestler around was a definite bonus. Sting was a respected figure in the wrestling world, and his presence added an extra layer of excitement and prestige to the organization.
