Nigel McGuinness Was Not Surprised By His WWE Release
Nigel McGuinness hasn’t been sitting around. He is preparing for his upcoming “CELEBRATION: The Magic of Nigel McGuinness” in Santa Monica, California on Thursday, just before WrestleMania rolls through. This will give fans a new chance to see what he is capable of, but a lot of fans miss having him around WWE as well.
Nigel McGuinness initially signed with WWE back in 2016. His first role with the company saw him as an announcer for WWE NXT UK before eventually transitioning to a commentator for other shows, including NXT, Main Event, and 205 Live.
During an appearance on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling Podcast, McGuinness revealed that his release from the WWE was not a surprising move. Despite this bump in the road, Nigel McGuinness continued to pursue his passion for magic and is now bringing his show to Santa Monica.
“It wasn’t a huge shock to me (being released from WWE). I don’t think so. I think with the NXT U.K. brand being put on hiatus and moving a lot of guys over to NXT, I kind of wasn’t being used as much as I might be and so I understood. Certainly, I’m not sure how much longer that role was gonna be there.”
“I was very grateful to still be employed as long as I was, doing the smaller shows in terms of (NXT) Level Up or 205 (Live). The ability to work with younger guys and stuff like that and watch younger guys just breaking into this industry, that was a great experience in and of itself but to answer your point, there wasn’t a huge shock. Again, I just had felt very grateful about everything that had happened there and very appreciative of the six years of the learning and the education and the experience.”

We will have to see what that “CELEBRATION: The Magic of Nigel McGuinness” event has in store for fans. We might see more than one outing if things go well. If anything, magic is certainly an interesting next step from pro wrestling, but both art forms require a certain amount of concealing what you’re really doing in front of a live audience.
