Dax Harwood Says Edge & Beth Phoenix Inspired Him To Use The Shatter Machine Name In AEW

Dax Harwood had this to say about his good friends Edge & Beth Phoenix.

At the Elimination Chamber premium live event in February 2023, Edge and Beth Phoenix paid tribute to FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) by using their signature Shatter Machine move on Finn Balor. Edge and Phoenix are noted friends & neighbors of both Harwood and Wheeler.

Weeks later, Harwood and Wheeler returned to AEW at the Revolution pay-per-view and hit the move on Austin Gunn. Notably, commentary called the move by the Shatter Machine name. Before this, the duo’s signature move was either called by the Goodnight Express name or the Big Rig name.

In a new interview with Fightful, Harwood talked about how seeing Edge and Phoenix do the move made him emotional and inspired him to find a way to use the name in AEW.

“How it came about was, obviously, Edge and Beth, they hit the move on WWE TV. Hearing Michael Cole say Shatter Machine—you can ask my wife, she took a video—it made me so emotional, dude, because we came up with the move, we came up with the name, and now ten years after we’ve come up with all that stuff, they’re still using that name, that move in a company we’re not even associated with at the time. It struck a chord with me and I was like, ‘That’s what it’s called. It’s the Shatter Machine and that’s what we’re going to use.’ So signing over the rights, I don’t know if I can legally talk about all that stuff about what names were used and what wasn’t. I’ll just say that we got permission to use that name.”
