Rey Mysterio dedicated more than 30 years of his life to the industry and gained a lot of respect from fans and peers alike. He has been wrestling since he was 14 and his contributions to the business cannot be understated.
After a nearly four-year hiatus from the WWE, Mysterio made his return in 2018. However, instead of being thrust into the main event scene, he was mainly involved in storylines with his son Dominik Mysterio.
While speaking on the latest edition of the After The Bell podcast, Rey Mysterio revealed that he considered hanging up his pro wrestling boots back in 2019. However, Dominik Mysterio convinced him to not retire.
“I mean at one point when I first came back [to WWE], I was actually feuding with Samoa Joe and I remember that’s when I really wanted to hang up the mask and retire. As weird as it sounds, Dominik convinced me not to and told me to stay. I just felt like I was falling behind with all this young talent opening up a path… but I stayed and I committed to putting in the work and it’s been incredible ever since. Yeah, I was really having doubts and I was like ‘Maybe it is time to step back and let this new generation come in and do their thing.’ But I think shortly after, I went to get some Stem Cells and I came back and I was ready to go.”

On March 31st, Rey Mysterio will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a recognition of his remarkable career. Right after, on April 1st, he will face off against his son at WrestleMania 39. Their feud will not be a one-off either, so we’ll have to see how their feud will progress.
