Dakota Kai was one of the highlights on NXT television because, she consistently put on great matches during her time with the company. However, WWE released Dakota Kai from her NXT contract back in April 2022. She came back a couple of months later, and it seems Triple H rehired her just a day before her return.
Dakota Kai came back during SummerSlam last year, where she returned as part of Damage CTRL alongside Bayley and Iyo Sky. They went on to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship before dropping the titles.
While speaking with Denise Salcedo, Dakota Kai revealed that she received a call from WWE’s Chief Content Officer Triple H just 24 hours before SummerSlam, which took place while she was not with the company.
“When SummerSlam came, I wasn’t with the company, obviously, but Triple H called like 24 hours beforehand, so he’s calling me because initially Bayley did the pitch because she’d been talking about doing the stable for a long time. She told me she was going to pitch it to him, and in my mind I’m like, ‘Oh, cool, I hope it works out well for you,’ kinda thing.
I didn’t think he would bring me back, but he ended up calling me like five minutes after she [Bayley] told me that [faction idea] and he said, ‘We’d love to bring you back,’” Kai said. “I’m like, ‘Cool, I have time to get gear. I have time to get my hair done.’ Then, not 10 minutes later, he was like, ‘No, to SummerSlam, I wanna fly you out tomorrow morning.’”

Damage CTRL is set to square off against Becky Lynch, Lita and Trish Stratus at WrestleMania 39 in a six-woman tag team match. We’ll have to wait and see who will come out on top in the match.
