Becky Lynch Claims Gender Is No Longer A Barrier In WWE

Becky Lynch makes an emphatic statement about gender in WWE.

For many years, women were not treated anywhere near to the level of their male counterparts in WWE. Women in WWE for a long time were seen as nothing more than sex symbols, with short matches and being a valet the highest the women’s wrestlers would reach in the promotion. That was until the company was revolutionized by several women, including “The Man” Becky Lynch.

While speaking on Know Mercy with Stephen A. Smith, Becky Lynch talked about the importance of the growing share of the fanbase women have nowadays in general.

“I think our female audience is 40% now? And I think you get that relatability. For example, the UFC, I prefer watching the women fight, because I’m a woman, so I can picture myself in that regard. It’s just … we’re all just people doing a sport. We’re all just telling stories. I think, gender aside, we do bring in a larger female audience because we show what [women are] capable [of]. But, in general, I think we’re at this stage, where, gender be damned, we’re just flowing with our stories and we’re just [WWE] Superstars.”

Becky Lynch is one of the few women who have main evented WrestleMania and is currently one half of the women’s tag team champions alongside her childhood hero, Lita. The champions are set to defend their championships against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez on Monday’s RAW.
