A new IWGP Heavyweight Champion has been crowned.
At Sakura Genesis, SANADA would challenge defending champion Kazuchika Okada for the championship. The match would be a back and forth affair, with a surprising ending as SANADA pinned Okada to capture the championship from “The Rainmaker”. This is the first world championship win of SANADA’s career.
Okada held the championship for 95 days, just shy of 100 days as champion. Minoru Suzuki recently stated that he wants to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship soon.
