KUSHIDA is a former NXT Cruiserweight Champion and one of New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s most accomplished junior heavyweights.
But he has never claimed a world championship in a significant organization. When he is competing against Steve Maclin for the vacant IMPACT World Championship at IMPACT Rebellion, that may change.

KUSHIDA told Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso (through a translator).
“I thank the gods of pro wrestling for giving it to me. I’ve never gotten the top championship. That means you are the face of the company. I want to be the driving force behind the company. I want to bring Impact all over the world.”

Josh Alexander’s decision to give up the championship due to an injury gave KUSHIDA the chance. Maclin was supposed to face Alexander in the championship defense.
