While Dominik Mysterio is carrying all kinds of momentum right now, he is still inexperienced in his career so far.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted, that while these plans are nixed now, there was some serious thought about sending Dominik Mysterio to NXT.
While there is no chance of this happening now, before the decision to start the Rey vs. Dominik program, there was serious thought given to sending Dominik to NXT

During WrestleMania 39, Rey Mysterio took on his own son in a match at the event. During the match, Rey Mysterio would remove his belt after Dominik had a corner spot go wrong. The patriarch of the Mysterio family would finally enact some discipline on his son, whipping him with the belt repeatedly, much to the delight of Michael Cole and the rest of SoFi Stadium.
