Steve Maclin won his spot in a future World Title match at No Surrender, when he defeated PCO, Heath, and Brian Myers in a 4 way match. We later found out that his World Title opportunity would come at the Rebellion PPV against Josh Alexander.
In a new interview with WrestleZone,
Maclin was asked about how he gains inspiration for his character in IMPACT Wrestling. Maclin noted that he doesn’t like to take all of the traits from a certain person in a movie or comic book, but instead likes to just take bits and pieces from several different people.
“Yeah, it’s one of those things where I try to take from what I see in a movie or in a comic book and I don’t try to be that person, I just try to take like a trait…[For Captain America], it’s more of the Nomad side of him where he’s not good, he’s not bad but he’s doing what he feels is right and I think everybody can relate to that. That’s just kind of how it is. Even in the Joker movie, he’s the biggest villain in the world but there’s a lot of relatable traits in that where like he’s been there the whole time and he could just be lying dead on the street and people will walk by him and nobody would have cared. I feel like a lot of people can relate to that as well and that’s what gets people behind [it]. Those are the things I kinda try to look for in certain things.”
Maclin also dove into the upcoming match and talked about his mindset heading into Rebellion.
“It’s one of those things where I’ve been telling everybody that it could have been Kushida all along as well. Him and Josh were [going to] wrestle at Multiverse, you don’t know who’s going to come out of that. Obviously with Kushida holding on to the hoverboard lock on Josh for a long while at Battle Of The Valley, it obviously probably aided in tearing his triceps. We don’t know, but what can you do? Mission stays the same, becoming the IMPACT World Champion for me. Opponent is different, so I’ve been prepping for that and I got to witness it firsthand at Sacrifice with Kushida. I know a lot of people said I tapped out, but I did it willingly and I expressed that the other night. Everybody’s tried to express to me that I tapped out but I’ve tried to express to them that I did it on purpose because why would I be a prideful idiot when nothing is on the line, when I can go into IMPACT Rebellion 100% for the world title.”

On March 23rd, the night before Sacrifice, Josh Alexander revealed that he would have to relinquish the World Title belt due to injury. IMPACT made the decision to make Kushida’s match at Multiverse United against Lio Rush a #1 contenders match for the World Title, with the winner taking on Maclin at Rebellion.
Maclin has been chasing the IMPACT World Title since arriving in IMPACT in June of 2021. Maclin is a former US Marine, and uses that in his plans of attach when preparing for matches.
Many fans would like to see Maclin capture his first IMPACT World Championship tonight at Rebellion.
