European Hotshot Callum Newman on Japanese Ambitions and Nickname Origins

Off the back of a whirlwind start to 2023, young British upstart talent Callum Newman has taken the independent wrestling scene by storm! Standout performances across many of the significant BritWres and European-based promotions have led to Newman being earmarked as one for more significant things beyond the independent scenes!

Ahead of his Over The Top Wrestling debut in Ireland on 15/04, Newman sat down with Irish Wrestling Entertainment’s Gerry Rushe and discussed his future plans, as well as touching on his relationship with New Japan Kingpin Will Ospreay.

When asked about Will Ospreay recently recruiting fellow BritWres standout Dan Moloney to join the United Empire, and if he shared any similar ambitions, Newman advised:

‘If there is a way to get to Japan I will take it, at the minute that’s my be-all end-all. The one big goal I want now is the best of the super juniors. Right now that’s what I want and what I’m working towards’.

Callum would then discuss the origins of his ‘Prince of Pace’ moniker, and how his relationship with Will Ospreay influenced him to choose this title:

‘It kinda came in training, we’d run the ropes, and I’d be a lot quicker than everyone. I started off calling myself the Ace of Pace cause it kinda rolls of the tongue. I told Will, I wanna be called this, he was like Nah it’s Shit, but he said everyone’s an Ace, you gotta earn the right to be an Ace. It goes Ace, King, Prince. There’s ya go, you’re Prince of Pace and work yourself up to be an Ace’.
