Why WWE Nixed Bad Bunny’s Original Backlash Plans
Bad Bunny was originally booked for Backlash in a tag team match but plans changed.
Back at WrestleMania 39, Bad Bunny got involved in the father son match between Dominik Mysterio and his father Rey. This lead many to believe he would be teaming with Rey in Puerto Rico, but Bunny will be going it alone vs Damian Priest in a Street Fight.
Fightful Select reports that the reason for this change was WWE’s confidence that Bunny can handle a singles match.
Fightful Select reported around WrestleMania that Bad Bunny was set to return and work towards a tag match with Rey Mysterio, taking on the Judgment Day duo of Damian Priest and Dominik Mysterio.Things were moving that directions and plans were headed that way, but the match was changed to a singles match. Fightful has learned that the original plans would have seen Bad Bunny pinning Dominik Mysterio in Puerto Rico, and leaving the fans happy. However, Dominik and Rey Mysterio were pulled from the match, and both Bad Bunny and WWE were said to have felt comfortable with Bunny’s ability to have a good singles match instead.

We will have to wait and see what happens when Bunny returns to WWE in ring action but WWE are certainly confident in his abilities.
