Mustafa Ali Supports Retribution Concept, Claims ‘The Whys’ Never Made WWE TV

Retribution debuted as part of the WWE landscape in 2020, with a group of masked individuals that appeared to desire to bring the promotion down from within. It was finally established that the organization was commanded by Mustafa Ali, but the group vanished from television less than a year later. In an interview with “Sportskeeda WrestleBinge,” Ali discussed what hindered Retribution from achieving its full potential.

“Retribution — the fatal thing about it [is] it never had a ‘why,'” Ali said. “I didn’t come up with the concept of Retribution, I didn’t come up with the names or the masks. I was just kind of given the thing. But at the end of the day, it was an opportunity, so I was rolling up my sleeves, stepping up ready to swing. I [was] like, ‘I’m going to hit a home run out of this.'”

Ali explained that he has created explanation for the group’s individual names as well as their masks, as well as a full narrative for Retribution. But none of it was ever used.

“I had answered the ‘whys,’ but the problem is the ‘whys’ never made it to TV,”

Ali went on. The WWE star stated that the group “fell through the cracks” since the folks who created the story didn’t have their own explanation for why anything was occurring.

Ali won a battle royal on Monday’s “WWE Raw,” earning him a future challenge for GUNTHER’s Intercontinental Championship. Their match will be broadcast live from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, during Night of Champions next week.
