Will Ospreay Reveals He Almost Signed With The WWE In 2016, Has Had No Regrets With NJPW
Will Ospreay was close to becoming a WWE superstar 7 years ago, but doesn’t regret not doing it,
Despite his future with New Japan being unclear right now, Ospreay admitted to “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” that he has zero regrets about signing with the company over WWE back in 2016.
“The selling point of New Japan was I got to come home. WWE — I had to move there. TNA, most likely the same thing and it wasn’t a guaranteed money,” he said. “With New Japan, I got to come home … So, the fact that I got to come home was incredible.”
Ospreay’s contract with New Japan is currently unclear. He did admit NJPW is his priority, however, he does not want to overlook the idea of wrestling in front of 80 thousand people at WrestleMania one day.
“But in the same sense of, I’m not going to lose sleep if I never do it,” he said. “I never wanted to get to this level of fame with wrestling, I just enjoyed doing it on the weekends and New Japan offered me a lot of money and I was like, ‘Woah, you can make money from this, can’t you?'”

Ospreay is a former IWGP Jr Heavyweight, Heavyweight, and United States Champion. He lost the US title earlier this year at WrestleKingdom to his rival Kenny Omega in a Match of the Year candidate.
