AEW: Dynamite 6/14/2023 Preview
All Elite Wrestling returns to ground zero, where their television journey began: The CapitalOne Arena in Washington, DC. This is where wrestling television was changed forever, the moment when Cody Rhodes and Sammy Guevara stepped foot into the ring. This homecoming of sorts brings with it a card guaranteed to give fans a great time and show just how far the Jacksonville promotion came.
Mogul Embassy vs Orange Cassity, Sting, Darby Allin, and Keith Lee
This eight-man tag team match brings with it some interconnected storylines, all stemming from the plotting Mogul Embassy’s leader, Swerve Strickland. Swerve’s teammates consist of Brian Cage and Gates of Agony as he continues to chase Orange Cassidy’s International Championship. However, Strickland’s past with Cassidy’s friend, Darby Allin, sees the young skateboarder and his iconic mentor join in. Additionally, Swerve’s story with his former tag team partner Keith Lee is far from over, as he aims to end their relationship to each other once and for all.
Toni Storm (c) vs Skye Blue (AEW Women’s World Championship
Following her win on last week’s AEW Rampage, Skye Blue gained an opportunity for a championship match against current holder, Toni Storm. Not only would a victory mean absolving her of her loss to Storm back in March, it would mean she’s finally broken through and become a champion. Toni Storm has proven to be a phenomenal title holder in the past, and her recent reign as interim champion had shown (and thank goodness they acknowledge that reign as a real championship run now), but Skye Blue has been nothing short of impressive.
Sammy Guevara Returns
Following his loss in Double or Nothing‘s four-way AEW World Championship match, the young J.A.S. member took some time off. A soon-to-be father of a daughter, what he has planned is hard to speculate, but beings as he started off AEW: Dynamite in the CapitalOne Arena four years ago (really???), there’s no telling where his character’s future is going to go. Bee-tee-dubs, congrats to Sammy and Tay Melo on the pregnancy!
Wardlow (c) vs Jake Hager (TNT Championship)
Another J.A.S. member who was involved in the historic debut episode of Dynamite in 2019, Jake Hager sets his sights on fellow hoss and current TNT Champion, Wardlow. The pair fought twice in 2021, one of those matches being an MMA Rules Cage Match which you should definitely remember and look back on, whether you want to or not. As these two behemoths clash tonight, fans can expect a professional wrestling match and the glory that is Arn Anderson.
MJF vs. Adam Cole (AEW World Championship Eliminator Match)
After a polarizing promo segment featuring some heart mixed in with the chronically online buzzwords attributed to both men, MJF and Adam Cole (ʙᴀʏʙᴀʏ) will lock up in an Eliminator Match. If Adam Cole wins, he gets to face the Burberry scarf-laden rich boy again at an upcoming show for his fancy belt, but if he loses, he misses out on the opportunity to challenge for the title. Regardless of the outcome, this is sure to be a fun match. Are you not sports entertained?
Hung Bucks vs. Blackpool Combat Club
They were there at the end of the beginning, Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley. But Omega isn’t here tonight – instead, it’s “Hangman Adam Page” and the Young Bucks. They stand opposed to one another on this Wednesday night, on different sides of different armies. Where the first episode had Jon Moxley DDT Omega onto a glass table at CapitalOne’s VIP room, this one will surely end in bloodshed. This is where carnage and war takes place, between these two teams, and what better place to do it than in the hell these demons created? As the now late, great Cormac McCarthy once wrote: “This is the nature of war, whose stake is at once the game and the authority and the justification.”
