Gunther is aware at the likelihood of him facing Roman Reigns at some point.
Many fans have been wanting to see Gunther and Roman Reigns square off, as the Intercontinental Champion has held the title for over a year now. However, Reigns of course has been world champion for over 1000 days.
In a new interview with Steve Fall of WrestlingNewsCo, Gunther was asked what would have happened should he have won the 2023 Royal Rumble match, where he was part of the final 2 with Cody Rhodes.
Gunther would explain that he and Roman Reigns are very far part right now.
“That’s a good question. I think that’s an interesting one down the line too. I think right now we’re very far apart from each other in what we have to do. We’re on different brands. Roman is on this never seen before title reign. I myself, I’m in the midst of making history. So once all that is said and done, we’ll see if that’s gonna happen,” said Gunther. ” In terms of the Royal Rumble, yes. It was a very long struggle being in first and then failing at the end, but just by an inch. At the end overall, I think that was a very important night for me in my career, because I think it was very unexpected. So yeah, I think I rebounded very good from that, and we’ll see what happens at the next Royal Rumble.”

Gunther seems to be on his way to another title defense, this time against Matt Riddle as the feud between the two took a violent turn on Monday’s RAW, where Imperium targeted Riddle’s ankle.
