AEW Collision: 7/1/2023 Preview
All Elite Wrestling: Collision comes to you pre-taped tonight from the FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and what a show it’s going to be! From debuting on the show to the progression of the Owen Hart Men’s Cup Tournament, this show has an assortment of things that is sure to collide with your metaphorical taste buds!
AEW World Champion MJF in action
Debuting on another bit of AEW programming, MJF is likely going to treat this as though he’s working as a child in the 1850’s western United States. Maybe he’ll say some words too.
ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe vs. Roderick Strong in an Owen Hart Cup tournament match (CM Punk Guest Commentator)
Two of Ring of Honor’s biggest hitters are set to clash, as these titans seek to advance for the Owen Hart Cup. On commentary is a former rival of the two, CM Punk, fresh off of his victory against Satoshi Kojima at Forbidden Door, which already provides a tantalizing hint of who could give him a rematch in the future. Will Roddy prove to be more than a generic white guy, or is Samoey Joey going to kill him? I hope they don’t hit each other too hard…
Juice Robinson vs. Ricky Starks in an Owen Hart Cup tournament match
The juice is regrettably still on the loose, and it’s up to Ricky to ensure the Bullet Club Gold member doesn’t advance in the tournament. While we can’t have Robinson lose too much, at some point Ricky has to overcome this obstacle and hopefully stay in the main event picture now that CMFTR helped place him back there last week.
Dustin Rhodes vs. Powerhouse Hobbs in an Owen Hart Cup tournament match
The Natural vs The Monster are set to lock up in what’s sure to be a plucky babyface veteran vs a cold and massive heel dynamic. My heart yearns for Dustin to win and prove to be a big deal before he inevitably retires, but my mind and gut says to not stop on any momentum for Hobbs. While his attachment to QTV splits most fans of the powerhouse, he’s a viable star to have on the roster, and needs to be capitalized on.
Miro in action
Bulgarian’s savior has rebuked his God and his wife. He is sure to rebuke whoever serves as his opponent on this night. Miro is great at squashing the smaller and less abled wrestlers on the scene, and once he’s built back up again, I’m sure he’s going to tell stories as great as his 2021-22 Redeemer run.
Bullet Club Gold speaks
While I like Juice Robinson, I think the Honey Combs mascot and the Gunn Club stay silent and let Jay White speak. He’s incredible on the microphone and I think fans deserve to see him flourish and prosper with his promos. His role in last week’s trios match speaks to how well he works in-ring, but he is such a compelling character.
Kris Statlander (c) vs Lady Frost (TBS Championship)
Statlander defends her TBS title (still feels so fresh and new), and she protects it against Lady Frost. While she hasn’t racked up too many wins on AEW or ROH, I maintain that Frost can be a great wrestler on the roster and can really succeed if she’s left to do so.
There you have it folks. Aside from ratings and discourse, how do you feel about the Collision product? I personally like it and the different feel it has from Dynamite.
