AEW Dynamite: 7/5/2023 Preview
America’s Independence Day is over (no Will Smith, Bill Pullman, or Jeff Goldblum, sadly), but nevertheless, this episode is bound to be explosive as the company brings the boom yet again. The Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament and the Owen Hart Cup Tournament advance, as does a couple of promo segments and a match that continues the storyline of the Blackpool Combat Club and The Elite. With that in mind, let’s take a look at tonight’s festivities of graps at Edmonton, Alberta’s Roger’s Place, shall we?
We’ll Hear from Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho will have a microphone. Maybe he’ll say some words, possibly even a sentence. Likely it will have to do with Sting, Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, or all of the above. Who knows, maybe a new challenger will approach?
We’ll Hear from Jon Moxley
Also set to formulate some sentences verbally on a microphone device is none other than the Death Rider himself, Jon Moxley! Only this time his words will feel pulled from literature while told in a casual tough guy manner that keeps comparisons to Terry Funk, Harley Race, and Mick Foley coming. On the way to Blood and Guts, his promo is likely to be laden with venom and anger and violence. Yikes, The Elite might want to watch out!
Dr. Britt Baker, DMD vs Ruby Soho (Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinal)
What’s more punk than defying authority? Flossing your teeth, of course. Ruby Soho of The Outcast defies the master of dentistry in Britt Baker to advance in the Owen Hart Cup, making up for lost time du to Baker’s illness the week prior.
Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland vs Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin (Blind Eliminator Tag Tournament Quarterfinal)
Swerve in Our Glory reunites to take on Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy. While the former has shown to work well together in the past, the former has some bad blood still in the air. A feud unresolved, can the former tag team champs return to the path they were once on – or will the sins of sloth and depravity damn the duo?
MJF & Adam Cole in action (Blind Eliminator Tag Tournament Quarterfinal)
Already off to a hot start in terms of chemistry on the microphone and in the ring, MJF and Adam Cole take on mystery opponents for the AEW Tag Team Championship. It would be interesting to see MJF contend with FTR after their previous alliance, and Cole meeting them face to face after his former Undisputed Era teammates faced off against them back on the black-and-gold era of NXT. First, they have to actually advance in the tournament.
Kenny Omega vs Wheeler Yuta
Following his Forbidden Door defeat at the hands of Will Ospreay, Omega finds himself across the ring from Blackpool Combat Club’s Wheeler Yuta. The young boy to the BCC has a pinfall win over Omega from Double or Nothing‘s Anarchy in the Arena match. Can lighting strike twice again, or will The Best Bout Machine regain his momentum?
This stop on the Canadian tour has a lot of potential to make for an interesting show, with surprises possible at any turn. I also expect the in-ring work to be entertaining as well.
