Austin Theory Will Defend US Title Against Tournament Winner On Smackdown, Not SummerSlam

Either Rey Mysterio or Santos Escobar will face Austin Theory on Smackdown following their tournament final match next week.

SummerSlam with take place August 5th in Detroit this year. At this time there are several great matches already lined up for the premium live event. WWE Women’s Championship will be on the line in a triple threat match as Asuka puts the title on the line against Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair. Jey Uso will also challenge Roman Reigns in a “Tribal Combat” match for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Dave Meltzer stated on F4WOnline’s Daily Update , that there will be no United States Championship match at SummerSlam. Instead Theory will defend his title on Smackdown.

“The Austin Theory U.S. title match was as of earlier this week scheduled for Smackdown and not for SummerSlam, which is already full with nine matches. That could always change but it was confirmed to us that was the original plan for the tournament”

Escobar and Mysterion earned their way into the finals by each winning a fatal four way match.
