AEW Dynamite: 8/8/2023 Preview
Within the depths of the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, All Elite Wrestling brings a card that is already exciting. Championship gold is on the line, friendship reigns, and a society is about to be unappreciated. All this and more! Let’s take a look.
Hikaru Shida (c) vs Anna Jay (AEW Women’s World Championship)
Fresh off of her title win last week, Hikaru Shida faces Anna Jay. If you follow her on social media, Shida has been nonstop celebrating the fact she has a title in front of fans, and will defend it with every fiber of her being. Erstwhile, Anna Jay will have the Jericho Appreciation Society Mandatory Meeting weighing down her thoughts. Two stories clashing that will progress characters is what makes wrestling fun, and I love this for these two women.
The Hardys vs The Young Bucks
Two legacy tag teams who have redefined tag team wrestling and wrestling in general many times over will reunite in battle again. Though I’ve never seen their past matches, I feel this will be a match worthy of both teams’ names.
Jack Perry (c) vs Rob Van Dam (FTW Championship)
Another legend of Generation X is the whole f’n show, RVD! A man who has seldom lost a step despite his age and new speed honors the hallowed grounds of ECW as Taz’s orange belt is defended. To have someone so disrespectful to its legacy holding it is to give a middle finger to that period of wrestling. Could RVD retrieve it, or will his aspirations go up in smoke? That’s a marijuana pun.
We’ll Hear from MJF & Adam Cole
The world’s new favorite tag team have some things to say ahead of the AEW World Championship Match at All In, so they speak once again. Is a split imminent, or is this another wholesome lovefest? I hope for the latter. They’re so enjoyable together.
Blackpool Combat Club vs The Lucha Brothers
Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli clash with Rey Fenix and Penta. This match is going to go bananas, with blood being a guarantee. With The Best Friends stable also embroiled, I’d imagine this to devolve into more insanity or at least set the stage for the carnage yet to come.
Jericho Appreciation Society Mandatory Meeting
Chris Jericho’s alliance with Don Callis, Konosuke Takeshita, and Mel Coleman has so alienated him from his friends in the stable that he himself started. So many friends that depended on him. From pupils to backup, this is a split that will dissolve yet another Jericho-led faction. Out of this, I hope Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia to remain together – Anna Jay and Tay Conti can as well. I want 2point0 to find themselves, and maybe Jake Hager could accompany them. Of course, maybe there’s no split at all. Who knows?
There you have it. Dynamite feels closer and closer to what made it special in the first place. Embracing chaos and madness while respecting what came before is what made it feel so special. It should be a fun show!
