AEW Collision: 8/18/2023 Preview
Within the Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, the card for Collision brings us closer to the London All In show on the 27th. There’s been quite a bit of drama in real life and in kayfabe, but let’s just get down to brass tacks, shall we? Let’s dig in, y’all. Do they say “y’all” in Kentucky? Probably, they’re Southern enough.
We’ll Hear From Miro
After being beat down by Powerhouse Hobbs and QTV, the Redeemer looked like a right old fool being out there on his own, but such arrogance is quick to anger God’s Favorite Champion. What epic sermon Miro has to say is yet to be heard, but doubtless he’ll be voicing his duress and anger. Look at his graphic – dude is grumpy. Woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Stop your scowling, Miro.
Powerhouse Hobbs in action
Speaking of Hobbs, he’s set for in-ring action. Much like Miro in the previous episodes of the yellow-and-red brand, I imagine this will be a quick squash.
We’ll Hear From FTR
I hope they don’t shoot on us.
Jay White vs Dalton Castle
The Switchblade vs The Peacock collide (heh) and these two former world champions are going to put up their dukes. There’s no story here, but it’s nice to see something new with a fresher face in rotation. This should be a fun match.
Ricky Starks Will Address His Comments From Last Week
When Ricky Starks mentioned how it hurt him to whip Ricky Steamboat more than it hurt The Dragon, he sounded like a total parent. The cocky arrogance of the Absolute is sure to ruffle the feathers of CM Punk (not a hard task these days, it seems), and you know his flammable remarks will light up the gasoline-drenched microphone that will burn harder than any pipe bomb. Answer for your crimes, Richard Starkothy.
Christian Cage (c) vs Darby Allin (TNT Championship)
The night after his tag team partner Edge’s retirement sees Christian defending a title he won by himself. And he does it against someone who made the TNT title mean something in Darby Allin. Christian is still in great shape as an in-ring wrestler so his war against the guy who seems to hate his own body is going to be an entertaining one. Only question is, will Nick Wayne accompany Darby like Luchasaurus will likely flank Cage? Will Swerve Strickland interfere? Find out next time, on Dragon Ball Z.
Willow Nightingale vs Diamanté
When Diamanté seemed to come to the aid of Kris Statlander following Mercedes Martinez’s beatdown on her, the fellow Puerto Rican joined Martinez on the assault towards the TBS Champion. Willow Nightingale didn’t take too kindly to that because she’s a ball of sunshine that doesn’t tolerate bullies, no sir. AEW’s been prioritizing the women’s division and having them featured more prominently. Collision in particular has been pitting the toughies against the toughies. I hope this main events.
There we have it. The show doesn’t have as wild a card as it could be, but I imagine I’ll enjoy the show. What about you?
