AEW Collision: 9/2/2023 Preview
The United Center in Chicago Illinois hosts the go-home show to All Out and AEW has surely loaded this card in preparation amid the suspension of CM Punk and Jack Perry. How will this Collision fare? Well, let’s just dig in.
The Outcasts vs Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., Hikaru Shida, & Kris Statlander
In what’s surely the quota match for the show, both teams see champions clash in trios action. Despite The Outcasts being in utter shambles despite Saraya’s title win at All In. Due to the fact that Toni Storm is becoming unhinged and in full retro diva style which I am a fan of, she’s at odds with her Outcast sisters – Saraya is untrusting of her after hitting her mom and Ruby Soho was a victim of Storm’s misplaced wrath. With Ruby challenging for Kris’s TBS Championship at All Out and Saraya needing to look good after becoming champ, they depend on Toni and must also support her in this match. The babyface side is proper miffed at the opposition in The Outcasts, but I don’t trust Britt Baker – she’s been on the sidelines too long so I imagine she might attack her cohorts or try to go after Saraya should there be an All Out match. Poor Hikaru Shida, I miss the brief time she was champion again.
Billy Gunn & The Acclaimed (C) vs Daddy Magic, Cool Hand Ang, & Daniel Garcia (AEW World Trios Championship)
Fresh off their Wembley win, The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass defend their new, pink titles against Jericho Appreciation Society alumni in the 2point0 and Daniel Garcia triumvirate. Plenty of scissoring and sports entertainment before a possible All Out match is set. Daniel Garcia might hit that silly dumb little dance.
Dax Harwood vs Jay White
Two men from opposing stables of Collision‘s biggest benefactors go head-to-head. Earlier on in the program’s life, Dax’s FTR and Jay’s Bullet Club Gold had some unbelievably fantastic matches that put the wrestling world on its head. Masters of storytelling. This will undoubtedly be fun ahead of FTR & The Young Bucks vs the full force of Bullet Club Gold (not Cardblade though, they had to make it fair). This might be the most talked-about match on the show.
Ricky Starks challenges Ricky “The Dragon Steamboat” to a Strap Match at All Out
I don’t know what’s going on in Tony’s head, because I don’t know what a Ricky Steamboat match on pay-per-view for an internationally broadcast program in 2023 would look like, but fortunately, that is likely not to be a worry. Steamboat is likely set to introduce a talent that will accept the Strap Match tomorrow. I don’t know who it would be, but it would be crazy if, despite the rumors, CM Punk came out.
Dennis Rodman Returns to the United Center
Okay sure, why not?
There ya go, folks. Not much advertised, but I imagine as the hours draw ever-nearer, that we find more chaos on the show that sets up All Out, quelling any misgivings we may have for the show. Strange that around this time in 2021, CM Punk made his return to wrestling inside The United Center, only not to feature at all despite being healthy. Probably because he’s got a reputation of acting like a turd sandwich though he’s not a turd sandwich.
