Gunther Dismisses Legendary Intercontinental Champions: “It’s My Time Now”
Gunther is dismissive of those who came before him with regard to the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Imperium’s Intercontinental Champion Gunther has made history this week as he surpasses Honky Tonk Man’s record as WWE’s longest-reigning holder of the belt after retaining it this week against Chad Gable.
The Rock, Steve Austin, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, Ultimate Warrior and more have all held the Intercontinental Championship during their careers, but Gunther does not care.
Speaking to Essentially Sports, Gunther was asked about previous champions.
“I don’t live in the past. Everybody, they all had their runs, it’s my time now,”
Gunther
The Honky Tonk Man’s record was for over fourteen months, ending at the hands of The Ultimate Warrior at Summerslam 1988. This massive achievement was proudly touted by the company for decades until the Austrian surpassed the legend.
We will have to wait and see what comes for Gunter but for now he celebrates accomplishing a simply massive feat.
