IMPACT Wrestling Results & Review — September 7th, 2023
-The show kicks off with Deonna Purrazzo taking on Dani Luna.
Deonna wins with the Fujiwara Armbar as Luna taps out.
My thoughts: good match for
Purrazzo to pick up a victory after two recent losses to Trinity and what’ll likely be a loss to the returning Jordynne Grace at Victory Road.
We get a video of Crazzy Steve talking about how he’s been abandoned. Steve mentions decimating Black Taurus at Victory Road, so I’m assuming we’ll get a match there.
Tommy Dreamer talks possible retirement at Victory Road. Dreamer talks about how personal that venue is for him, and what it would mean to him to retire there.
Heath walks up and makes Dreamer second guess putting his retirement on the line against King.
-Back in the ring, Champagne Singh & Shera are already out. JOYA (Joe Hendry & Yuya Uemura) make their way out for a match.
JOYA combine to hit ONE HIT WONDER, Hendry covers for the pinfall.
My thoughts: this is a fun new team to the tag division and they’re very fun to watch. Hopefully
Yuya will be around for awhile to keep this team going.
Maclin is backstage with Bully Ray, he says they both got what they wanted tonight and at Victory Road. Bully said he didn’t get what he wants. He doesn’t want PCO because neither of them have had good luck with him, and they’ve put him through everything. Bully says he wants Carl Outlet, the main behind the monster.
We get a video package advertising Will Ospreay for Bound For Glory + Fallout on October 21st and 22nd.
Josh Alexander is backstage talking about both his match tonight where he teams with PCO, and Victory Road where he takes on Maclin.
-Subculture (Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster) vs Rich Swann & Sami Callihan
Swann & Callihan pull off the victory after a great combination of moves to finish off Mark Andrews.
My thoughts: great match on both sides, somewhat surprised Subculture took another loss after losing the tag titles at Emergence. This seems likely the last of Subculture in IMPACT until maybe the UK tour in October.
We get a clip of the Knockouts Battle Royal from last week, and it shows Gisele Shaw and Savannah Evans eliminating MK Ultra.
Shaw is backstage talking about how that should earn them a title shot and how they got screwed when more teams were added to the tag title match at Emergence.
The Rascalz are In another backstage area talking about how they’re the tag team champipns and that there’s a lot of history in those title belts. The Good Hands interrupt and say they “deserve” a shot at the titles. The Rascalz say they have a match at Victory Road they’re focused on, and if the Good Hands want their title shot, it’s in the best interest of everyone involved for the Rascalz to win their match against the Machine Guns.
-Lio Rush vs Kevin Knight
Lio Rush wins with the FINAL HOUR off the top rope and gains the pinfall. Lio applies Kushida’s Hover Board Lock until Kushida comes out to make the save.
My thoughts: this was definitely the match of the night. Great stuff from both competitors. Rush plays a great heel in the ring and both men compliment each other very well.
Dango segment on Jake Something.
Jordynne Grace hype video – retunring at Victory Road to take on Deonna Purrazzo.
–Contract Signing – IMPACT Knockouts World Title
-Trinity & Alisha Edwards
Great back and forth on the microphone from both.
Segment finishes with Alisha throwing champagne in Trinity’s face and then Trinity taking her earrings out and grabbing Alisha and pulling her over the table. Trinity goes after Alisha pounding away at her. Santino is holding Eddie back as Trinity sets Alisha up to go through the table. Santino disappears and Eddie Edwards comes up from behind Trinity and ends up putting Trinity through the table. Alisha stands tall over Trinity with the IMPACT Knockouts Title held up high in the air. Frankie Kazarian finally runs out and Eddie & Alisha scatter.
My thoughts: great promo work from both women, and Trinity taking a table spot is crazy to me for someone who likely isn’t beating her, but it was cool nonetheless. Trinity calling Eddie Edwards “Mr Alisha” really popped me.
We get a video backstage of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin talking about becoming 4x Tag Team Champions tomorrow night at Victory Road.
-PCO/Josh Alexander vs Bully Ray/Maclin
Maclin and Josh start off in the match for the first time they’ve EVER stepped into the ring against each other.
Maclin and Bully pick up the victory after Bully hits PCO with a low blow and then rolls him up for the pin.
My thoughts: they’ve done a great job of building up PCO as a legit monster, having him overcome everything he has. Maclin and Bully cheated to win, but we did get a good preview of Josh and Maclin head of Victory Road.
Overall thoughts: really good go-home show to Victory Road. There wasn’t a miss on this show for me, everting landed and was pretty good if not great. I’m definitely looking forward to Victory Road tonight. Nobody does the LIVE monthly events like IMPACT does.
Big Speculation for the week: after being released from AEW, IMPACT Wrestling Could Be A Potential Landing Spot For CM Punk
